The Westing Game

Mum and I went to a small
mall before we went my aunt’s house (you could practically see my aunt’s house
from the mall) and I instantly went to Book Sale while my mum waited for me. I
was flipping randomly fast in the Kid’s paperback section because my was
coaxing me like HURRY UP and stuff. I suddenly saw The Westing Game which I saw on some blog when I was finding 39
Clues fan fiction (guilty pleasure) I was, like, seriously what does this book have to do with the 39 Clues? But I
started reading the blog entry it was good but I didn’t read the plotline,
spoilers, etc. because it would ruin the fun right? So I searched in every
possible bookstore site here in the Phil and no such luck it was published in
1978! (I WASN’T EVEN BORN YET).So I quickly grabbed it and bought it with some
other book I bought called Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
So here’s my review:
- Name: The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
- My Random Simplified Summary: What seem to be 16 random people are chosen for the reading of eccentric millionaire Sam Westing will but everything is not what it seems and old Uncle Sam has a few tricks up his sleeve.(and no people I did not copy this from the book)
- The Good: “Expect the Unexpected” is what I suggest if you’re going to read this. It’s full of twist, turns and tricks that it so utterly mind bending that you just can’t stop reading. It isn’t just a book you can also play-along and figure out the puzzle. Every bit of detail was perfectly planned out.
- The Bad: There are too many characters and it’s changing of point of views is quite confusing but once you get the hang of it you’ll understand. Some of the characters were poorly illustrated but I guess that’s the beauty of it you can imagine them whatever you like.
- Book Quote: “If Sam Westing wanted to replay that terrible drama, Angela Wexler would have to die.” –Sandy McSouthers, pg. 111.
- Overall Score: 9.8 out of 10
I think of
it as The 39 Clues when your mom or dad was our age. I mean The Westing Game and The 39
Clues have similar plot but other than that they have utterly different and
whatnot.
